The Pulse: Brianna Thomas Reflects on the Common Truths Guiding Her Fine New Album

Courtesy of the artist

Grit. Depth. Maturity.

The mood of Brianna Thomas’ sophomore effort, Everybody Knows, embodies the experience of living in a climate wrought with polarizing emotions. Self-released and produced by the Grammy award-winning Brian Bacchus, with liner notes from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Miller, the album certainly finds Thomas in great company.

Its songs explore universal truths and the human condition. Thomas reimagines “Since I Fell for You” and Nina Simone’s “Mississippi Goddam,” and introduces her original compositions “How Much Forgiveness” and “I Belong to You.” Everybody Knows solidifies both her sound and personal credo — embracing her individuality while paying respect to those who came before her and celebrating her love of mankind. She brings together some of today’s most respected musicians, both burgeoning and established, including pianist Conun Pappas, guitarist Marvin Sewell, bassist Ryan Berg, percussionist Fernando Saci and drummer Kyle Poole.

On this virtual edition of The Pulse, we discuss the six-year journey that led to the release of her latest album, the thinking behind its compilation and more.
