Resources and Relief Efforts For Musicians Affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic

The coronavirus has wreaked havoc on the global economy, and its impact on the musical ecosystem is incalculable. Relief efforts have been initiated by a range of nonprofit organizations, some of them formed expressly for this purpose.

The New York Foundation For the Arts has an exhaustive list of resources, many with strict regional eligibility requirements. This list is more targeted, and excludes funds that have already been exhausted. We will do our best to keep it up-to-date.

  • Jazz Coalition — A new collection of industry professionals, musicians and supporters whose primary initiative is a Commission Fund, which distributes $1,000 grants in support of new work.
  • Jazz Foundation of America — The long-running organization that provides emergency assistance, helps with housing and medical care, and creates work opportunities for musicians.
  • MusiCares — A charitable arm of The Recording Academy, MusiCares established a COVID-19 Relief Fund to provide support to musicians affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Newport Festivals Musician Relief Fund — The Newport Festivals Foundation established this fund to provide grants, with first priority going to artists who have played the Newport Jazz or Folk Festivals.
  • The SmallsLIVE Foundation — A nonprofit affiliated with the clubs Smalls and Mezzrow, this foundation provides emergency funds and supports individual projects and music education.
