Rhonda Hamilton, A Legend in Jazz Radio, Prepares For Her Last Signoff at WBGO

WBGO

Rhonda Hamilton has been a trusted voice at WBGO since we first went on the air, 40 years ago.

Describing her first day on the job in a recent conversation with our News team, she recalled “walking into the studio, and just being excited about the opportunity to play the music that I love on the air – in my area, where I grew up.”

Rhonda has done just that and so much more — as the longtime host of Midday Jazz, the emcee of our Monday-night series at Dizzy’s Club, and the voice of nationally syndicated programs like NPR’s JazzSet and Toast of the Nation.

She recently made the decision to move to the West Coast — which means her last day at WBGO is on the near horizon. Rhonda will broadcast her final show on July 31, and we wish her all the best as she embarks on a new journey. We have truly grown up together, and she leaves behind an important legacy.

To hear Rhonda live through the end of the month, we encourage you to tune in as always to Midday Jazz, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll also be sharing some highlights from our archives, and special programming in her honor. Stay tuned to 88.3FM and this site for more information in the days to come.
