Pianist Billy Childs has demonstrated a range of creative skills — as a pianist with Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson and Dianne Reeves; as the composer of masterly chamber jazz experiences; as a bandleader and arranger paying tribute to singer-songwriter Laura Nyro. Childs calls his new recording "Rebirth
." It features a quartet with saxophonist Steve Wilson, bassist Hans Glawischnig and drummer Eric Harland. They move through a program consisting mainly of originals, with a couple of evergreens — and special guests including vocalists Claudia Acuña and Alicia Olatuja.
