Each summer, NYO Jazz showcases outstanding teen jazz musicians from across the US. One of Carnegie Hall’s three acclaimed national youth ensembles, the program brings together exceptional young artists, ages 16–19, selected through a highly competitive audition process. After performing at Carnegie Hall, NYO Jazz musicians serve as cultural ambassadors, sharing this uniquely American art form with audiences worldwide through international touring.
Since its debut in 2018, NYO Jazz has toured extensively across Europe, Asia, South Africa, Latin America, and the US, led in past seasons by trumpeter and bandleader Sean Jones. Guest artists have included Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Alicia Olatuja, and Luciana Souza. In summer 2026, trumpeter Kris Johnson leads the ensemble, with Dee Dee Bridgewater returning as guest vocalist for a tour of Asia.
