NYC Officials Pleased With Coronavirus Situation

NYC Healtha nd Hospitals

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is not optimistic he’ll meet his coronavirus vaccination goal. The mayor is about three quarters of the way toward his goal of getting five million New Yorkers fully vaccinated by the end of June. He says it will be very tough to hit that mark but is pleased the city is ahead with the virus.

“We’re at a point of COVID positivity that’s lower than we expected to be at this point”

Meanwhile, one of the city’s top doctors Mitchell Katz says while the city does not have heard immunity, it has reached what he calls functional immunity.

“There’s more and more activity. We are hugging each other. We are shaking hands and yet the number of cases is decreasing, just the opposite of what happened when New York City began to open last year.”

64 percent of New York City adults have gotten at least one vaccine dose.

New York City is cracking down on illegal fireworks as Independence Day approaches. The city has created an illegal fireworks taskforce comprised of NYPD and FDNY members and state police and other agencies. Sheriff Joe Fucito.

“What the task force is looking to do is develop information on who the major suppliers are. We going to look to interdict these illegal fireworks as they come into New York City.”

Fireworks were big problem last summer in the city. The number of 311 firework complaints skyrocketed last year and a three year old Bronx boy who was by his apartment window was seriously injured from one.
