Chad Foundation Celebrates Cultural Education

WBGO's Alexandra Hill chats with The Chad Foundation's Executive Director Eric Stevenson about their Black History event titled "Cultural Education - History, Impact, and Relevance for Today".

The event will be held at The Chad School Building at 308 South 9th Street, Newark on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. The event will highlight the importance of culturally-relevant education, and honor The Chad School's legacy as an institution that produced Newark scholars who were academically competitive and equally self-aware.

Chad welcomes Mayor Ras J. Baraka, State Senator Teresa Ruiz, and former Chad educator, Brother Pat Green, as esteemed guests, and Dr. Howard Fuller as the keynote speaker for the evening. The evening will also feature a panel discussion of former Chad School students and educators who will pay homage to independent, community-based education and further emphasize the importance of culturally relevant education in Newark's schools.

Alexandra Hill began her work with WBGO in June of 2012 in the news department. A graduate of the Rutgers Newark journalism program, Alexandra was also a student of WBGO News Director Doug Doyle. Alexandra has since become the lead general assignment reporter, afternoon news anchor, and producer of the award winning live call in show Newark Today. Alexandra also covers a host of human-interest stories, and has been recognized by the New York Association Of Black Journalists for her piece entitled Sheltering Newark’s Homeless.
