With summer now in full swing, New York State is trying get more children outdoors
The Get Offline and Get Outside campaign just kicked off. Governor Kathy Hochul says it encourages children to step away from their electronic devices and enjoy the outdoors this summer.
"Think about when you were young, what you did with your time. You kicked balls, you played catch, you swam. You just enjoyed life. You weren't sitting indoors being held captive to your cell phone."
The campaign comes after Hochul signed legislation that aims to protect children from social media addiction. Part of the campaign includes free admission at all swimming pools at state parks this summer. There's also grant money now being made available to help with transportation to swimming lessons.
