September 18 is WBGO's legendary Daybreak host Gary Walker's 75th birthday.

He’s simply greatest one of the great radio announcers of all-time.

His enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak from 8am til noon.

Gary won the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and was the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association.

Through his more than four decades at WBGO, he has truly interviewed nearly all the great jazz artists like Sonny Rollins, Horace Silver, Darlene Love, Samara Joy, Gregory Porter, Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Bela Fleck, Michael Brecker, Rufus Reid and many, many others.

Gary Walker is a master storyteller, interviewer extraordinaire and an icon. Happy 75th Gary. We love you.
