State Rejects NYC's Request To Release Second Doses of COVIDVaccine

Wikimedia Commons

The state is rejecting New York City’s request to use second doses of the coronavirus vaccine in place of first doses. Because of lack of supply, Mayor Bill de Blasio is formally asking for permission from the state to use those second doses.

“If it’s your mom, your dad, your grandparents, your aunt, your uncle, I think you know what I am saying right now. They are desperate to get any protection at all. If that first dose gives them 50 percent protection, isn’t it the moral thing to do to maximize the number of first doses.”

The mayor says it will only be a brief delay getting to second dose patients.  New York State’s health commissioner wrote a letter back to the mayor saying the CDC at this time does not recommend using second doses in place of first doses.
