NYC Providing Service For Residents In Isolation

New York City is providing free services to those in isolation with coronavirus.  In an effort to help people and try and make sure folks who test positive stay in quarantine for two weeks, the city has brought on what Mayor Bill de Blasio calls resource navigators. They will make daily phone calls to people and get them what they need for free.

“Medical check ins. It means meals. It means laundry. It means making sure you get any medicines delivered that you need. It means mental health support.”

For those with large families or living close with others, they will get a hotel.

“The hotel rooms are free, all the services that go with them are free. Anyone who needs that opportunity.”

New York City is preparing to start reopening in early June. Mayor de Blasio continues to say he’s confident the city will start phase one of reopening in the first half of June and that includes construction and retail for curbside pickup only. The city will send coronavirus inspectors to businesses.

“Going out to make sure all the state protocols are being followed”

De Blasio says the city is working with the restaurant bar industry to figure out outdoor dining at some point.

“We got a lot to figure out in terms of social distancing, face coverings, and what amount of capacity you can create that would make it worthwhile. Cause bar and restaurant owners have been really clear. They need a certain level of capacity to make it economically viable.”
