New York City is expanding a pilot program to improve the quality of life for New Yorkers.
The "Every Block Counts" pilot program was launched eight months ago on 10 city blocks in the Bronx and Brooklyn. It has resulted in a 22 percent drop in overall crime on those blocks and resolved 160 issues from cleaning vacant lots to graffiti removals. The NYPD's Kaz Doughtry says the program is now expanding to 15 more blocks.
"To make New York City safer, cleaner and more livable. We are going block by block, street by street to deliver real change where it is needed the most."
Officials will be identifying infrastructure need and quality of life concerns on the 15 blocks and then taking action.
