New York city will have a new person in charge of the school system on January 1st.
Schools Chancellor David Banks is retiring at the end of the calendar year after four decades in the industry. He insists his timing of the announcement has nothing to do with federal investigations in Mayor Adams' Administration.
"Everybody's going to think I leaving because of this stuff. It has nothing to do with that. We have been working on this for months."
Mayor Adams named Bronx native Melissa Ramos as the next schools chancellor.
"My charge is to make sure we carry through on all of the bright starts and bold futures and all of the pathways we are building for our children."
Ramos has worked with the City's Department of Education for about two decades in numerous roles.
