New York City's police commissioner is resigning after being in the headlines over the last couple weeks because of an FBI investigation into him.
In his resignation letter, Caban said, "The news around recent developments has created a distraction for our department, and I am unwilling to let my attention be on anything other than our important work."
Mayor Eric Adams spoke briefly about the resignation.
"He concluded that this is the best decision at this time. I respect his decision and wish him well."
Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is reacting.
"That does alleviate a little of the pressure and stress upon the NYPD at this time."
The FBI Recently raided Caban's home and reports are the feds are looking at whether Caban's brother illegally profited off nightclubs by using his connection to Caban. Mayor Adams appointed Thomas Donlon as interim commissioner. He used to work for the FBI.
"Tom is an experienced law enforcement professional who has worked at the local, state, federal and international levels."
