NYC unveils pilot to crackdown on retail theft

There's a new pilot program to help catch those taking part in retail theft in New York City.

The city is offering businesses a chance to use a technology company to sync up their security cameras to their NYPD precinct, giving police real time access to the feeds. Last summer, they began testing the program in Queens. President of the 125th Business Improvement District Barbara Askins says 13 businesses took part and it worked well.

"125th Street is no longer the place where you can come and shoplift at will."

Police officials say the pilot program aims to facilitate faster and more efficient investigations and deter retail theft which has soared in the last few years.
