On Wednesday, New York City became the latest city to pass a cap on how much food delivery apps like Grubhub can charge restaurants for deliveries.

A pay raise is now in effect for app-based food delivery workers in New York City.

The calendar turning to April means the city's minimum pay rate for app-based restaurant delivery workers is now at 19.56 an hour before tips. That's up from last year's nearly 18 bucks an hour. Head of the Worker's Justice Project Ligia Guallpa says this impacts 65-thousand delivery workers in the city.

"This is hard working money that goes to mothers, that goes to fathers that goes to kids who live in our communities."

Companies like Grubhub and Uber say this will raise fees for businesses and customers.
