Reparations tied to slavery is being studies in New York state.

The bill Governor Kathy Hochul signed Tuesday orders that a nine person commission be formed to study the impact slavery has had in New York. It will report back on recommendations for racial justice and potential monetary compensation and legislative solutions connected to slavery. Civil Rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton applauds the move.

"Today starts the process of taking the veil off northern inequality and saying we must repair the damage."

Those who voted against the bill say they would like to focus more on equal opportunity efforts as opposed to reparations.
