Mon., Oct. 9: Israelis inspect a damaged residential building after it was hit by a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip, in Ashkelon, Israel.

New York City is on high alert because of the violence in Israel between Hamas and Israel.

Mayor Eric Adams wants New Yorkers to be the NYPD's extra eyes.

"This is definitely a moment where you don't want to live your eyes living into your phones. You need to be conscious of your surroundings. This is a very heightened period right now."

There's stepped up security at synagogues with extra focus on the city's heavily Jewish populated areas. Meanwhile, the NYPD continues to monitor social media and show up to protests which have drawn both sides with demonstrators pushing and shoving at times. There are no threats directed at New York City since Hamas attacked Israel last weekend.
