There are thousand of jobs in New York State waiting for migrants once they are authorized to work.

The state Department of Labor is now working with 400 employers who are welcoming migrants to apply for some 18 thousand job openings. Half of them are in New York City and the other half are elsewhere in the state. Andrew Riggie with NYC's hospitality alliance says about 25 percent of the job openings are in the hospitality industry.

"People came here not for a handout, but to become self sufficient and they can become self sufficient by getting jobs, learning skills."

The feds recently drastically cut the amount of time some Venezuelan migrants can work legally. Governor Kathy Hochul is hoping once they get jobs, pressure will be taken off New York City's overburdened shelter system.
