Officials on Staten Island are trying to prevent migrants from coming to their borough as the city scrambles to find more places to put them.

Borough President Vito Fossela is not happy about reports that New York City and federal officials are thinking about sheltering migrants at Fort Wadsworth, an old military base and now a historic Site on Staten Island. He says he's asking New York's Congressional delegation to try and convince their colleagues to put migrants at the National Mall instead.

"Allow these individuals to live in Washington D.C., our nation's capital and perhaps then will wake up the federal government to solve the problem that they in fact created.

A group of Democratic and Republican Staten Island officials wrote a letter to federal officials, Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul opposing any plans to bring migrants to For Wadsworth.
