Taxi drivers are hoping to avoid congestion pricing fees that are being debated now for south of 60th Street in Manhattan.
There are several scenarios where taxi drivers would pay nine to 23 dollars to go into the congestion zone but other scenarios where they are not charged at all. Head of the Taxi Workers Alliance Bhairavi Deasai is fighting to get taxi and for hire vehicle drivers exempt.
“It’s a small number of vehicles. They are the most efficient vehicles on the road and both taxies and FHV’s are already paying into the system to subsidize the MTA.”
The MTA study shows there will be job losses in the for hire vehicle industry if drivers are charged a congestion fee.
