One lane on the Iconic Brooklyn Bridge will be shut to vehicular traffic starting Monday night to allow crews to turn it into a bike path.
The innermost Manhattan bound vehicular lane will become a protected two-way bike path with a concrete barrier separating cyclists from drivers. This is expected to be complete in early fall. State Senator Brian Kavanagh represents residents on both sides of the bridge.
“We really do need a network of bike lanes that are connected that allow people to efficiently get from one place to another. There’s no better connector, no more important connector than the Brooklyn Bridge.”
The Brooklyn Bridge bike lane is part of Mayor de Blasio’s commitment of installing more than 30 miles of protected bike lanes in the city this year.
