New York State is changing coronavirus related capacity rules for Mets and Yankees home games.
Starting May 19th, there will be sections of Yankee Stadium and Citi Field for vaccinated fans only. Governor Cuomo says they must wear masks.
“Sit next to each other in a section. Sit next to your friends. Sit next to your family. Just normal capacity, normal seating.”
Then there will be other sections for unvaccinated fans that must sit six feet apart with 33 percent capacity in those sections. Meanwhile, the state is partnering with the Mets and Yankees to offer vaccine shots at the baseball games and a game ticket to go along with it.
There’s concern about the coronavirus vaccination rate dropping off.
Councilman Mark Levine is the head of the health committee. He notes there’s been a 67 percent drop in the number of first shots since peak demand just last month.
“This should worry everybody because we’ve only got 55 percent of adults with one shot and that puts at risk our plans to prevent continued outbreaks in the city.”
Mayor de Blasio says the city will announce incentives soon for people to get the vaccine. He’s also calling on private sector doctors to reach out to their patients to try and convince them to get the shot.
