Antonio Adolfo’s ‘Bossa 65’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play July 3-7

 Antonio Adolfo
Antonio Adolfo

With deep roots in the Bossa tradition, pianist Antonio Adolfo salutes two major influences on his life and the life of Bossa—Carlos Lyra, a celebrated singer and composer (whom Antonio calls his "Godfather") and Brazilian guitarist and composer Roberto Menescal, who gave the gem "Little Boat" to the Bossa world. Influenced by bebop, soul and West Coast jazz, Antonio Adolfo and his Octet shine in this beautiful tribute to two legendary composers and performers.

From Monday, July 3 through Friday, July 7, one cut from the Bossa 65 album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
