Songs in the Key of Wonder
What do you get when you combine an accomplished jazz pianist from Chicago, his soulful band, and an A-list singer from the South? Magic!
James Austin Jr Trio, with special guest Dermel Warren, perform “Songs in the Key of Wonder”. Dermel joins this live performance to compliment James’ tasteful instrumental arrangements showcasing select classics by Stevie Wonder.
The combination of the Trio’s magic blended with Warren’s special touch is sure to dazzle the audience with a range of inspired emotions.
James Austin Jr honed his craft under legendary jazz musicians like Barry Harris and is regularly featured in the NYC area in live concerts, theatrical performances, and civic and charitable events. He has curated and led the NJPAC Jazz Jam Session series since its inception.
Dermel Warren developed her singing voice in her childhood church in Memphis, TN, where she trained with Kelley Muller-Smith (the first lady of Miracle Temple Ministries, Inc). She has performed with Sergio Davis, the late Mel Waiters, and Donald Lawrence. She performs regularly with her husband, jazz drummer Jeremy Warren, and several other top musicians.
DIANA KRALL RETURNS TO THE STAGE WITH NEW U.S. TOUR
Metropolitan Entertainment and NJPAC are thrilled to announce that Grammy Award winning and multi-platinum jazz singer Diana Krall will perform at NJPAC in Newark on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 7:30pm. Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered two GRAMMY® Awards, ten Juno Awards and have earned nine Gold, three Platinum, and seven multi-Platinum albums. Her 1999 release of When I Look in Your Eyes spent an unprecedented 52 weeks in the #1 position on Billboard's Jazz chart, won two Grammy Awards, and went Platinum in the U.S. and Canada. Her most recent release, This Dream Of You, has garnered critical acclaim from fans and press alike. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable artists of our time. As The New York Times recently noted, she possesses “a voice at once cool and sultry, wielded with a rhythmic sophistication.”
SHU Community Theatre Presents LIVE: The Bernie Williams Collective
Four-time World Series champion and legendary New York Yankees centerfielder Bernie Williams joins some all-stars of a different kind: his talented band, The Bernie Williams Collective. Featuring Williams on guitar, the band includes music director Don Harris on trumpet, Joel Rosenblatt on drums, Dave Anderson on bass, Chris Clark on piano/keyboards and Erik Piza on percussion. While best known as a 5-time All Star for the Yankees, Williams has been playing and studying music since his childhood, reaching #3 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz charts with his tropical-tinged debut album The Journey Within. Since then he's worked with Bruce Springsteen, Jon Secada, Dave Koz and more on albums and performances and as a crusader for arts education through the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation's SupportMusic Coalition and the Turnaround Arts program, working locally with students in Bridgeport public schools. IN 2016, Williams received his bachelor of music degree in Jazz Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and he was awarded an honorary degree from the State University of New York, recognizing his achievements as both a Yankee and a top-flight musician.
