Mali Obomsawin 6tet: Sweet Tooth Album Release
Sets at 7.30pm + 9.30pm ET
Bassist, composer, and singer Mali Obomsawin (of Odanak First Nation) and her band deliver a captivating performance that feels both timeless and ancient. Exploring the dissonance of colonization and the sanctity of Indigenous lineage, Obomsawin's debut album "Sweet Tooth" offers a foray into Indigenous joy and struggle with folk songs from her community and modern sounds in the tradition of improvised music. Timely and intimate, Sweet Tooth foregrounds the distinctly Indigenous contributions to jazz music, and gives a unique opportunity for audiences to reflect on the Indigenous history of the Northeastern US. Do not miss this album release show!
Mali Obomsawin -bass, vocals
Miriam Elhajli -guitar, vocals
Allison Burik -bass clarinet
Noah Campbell -tenor sax
Taylor Ho Bynum -cornet

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
“Big Girls Don’t Cry.” “Walk Like a Man.” “Sherri.” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” Nothing says ‘60s doo-wop like Frankie Valli. One of the most distinctive voices in all of the American music, Frankie’s dazzling falsetto has become the stuff of legend. And The Four Seasons is hotter than ever thanks to the volcanic success of the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys, which chronicled the life and times of the Newark rock ‘n’ rollers. For over five decades, Frankie and The Four Seasons have been a top concert draw on stages coast-to-coast and around the world. “Frankie Valli’s voice is a thing of wonder. Every high note—and there are many—is hit with laser-guided precision. Oh, what a night, indeed!”

Raul Midón
Ever since being told when he was a child that his blindness meant that “you can’t do this, you can’t do that,” Raul Midón has lived a life devoted to beating the odds and shattering stereotypes. Midón has an incredible signature combination of silky voice and percussive guitar, which has led this soulful singer/songwriter to release 11 studio albums, two of which have been nominated for a Grammy Award. Raul Midón doesn’t need to be labeled by genre; he simply sings with his soul, connecting with audiences far and wide. Please note: All audience members for this concert must wear a mask and show proof of vaccination. Tony Trischka and Bruce Molsky
The Watchung Arts Center is delighted and honored to present two outstanding performers, each at the top of his field on Sunday, January 23 at 3PM. Tony Trischka, “known as the father of modern bluegrass” (New York Times), and Bruce Molsky, “one of the world's premier Appalachian-style fiddlers” (Bloomberg News), will join together in this very special performance. There’s some virtuosic and joy provoking common ground in the fusion of Tony Trischka’s bluegrass banjo world view and Bruce Molsky’s new but true to tradition old time southern mountain fiddling and singing. Their new and old songs and tunes showcase the best of each, and hearing them together is always a wonderful visit between old friends.
