This annual concert event, co-presented by NJPAC’s Arts Education Department and the New Jersey Music Educators Association, brings together some of the very best young musicians and vocalists from across the state for a dynamic group performance. The NJMEA All-State Jazz Band and NJMEA All-State Jazz Choir will be joined by special guest Christian McBride—NJPAC Jazz Advisor and acclaimed jazz bassist, bandleader and composer.

  • Revel in the first warm days of Fall with a hot tango concert presented at Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills. The Riverside Guitar Duo, in partnership with The Discovery Orchestra, will perform Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Suite on October 7 on the West Terrace of the 28-acre site whose garden dates back to the 1920s.

    Attendees are invited to stroll through the garden starting at 5:30 p.m. and then make their way to the West Terrace where wine and cheese will be served starting at 6:00 p.m. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will take place rain or shine under the garden’s seasonal tent. With seating for just 70, tickets are selling quickly for this special evening.

    “Tango is new this season at Greenwood where our aim is to present high-quality programming to the communities we serve in a unique and beautiful setting,” says Abby O’Neill, Executive Director. “We are excited to present such talented musicians through a partnership with The Discovery Orchestra featuring Maestro George Marriner Maull.”

    For over 26 years George Marriner Maull, Artistic Director of The Discovery Orchestra, has made classical music listening more meaningful and transformative through his interactive instruction. He teaches the listening skills that help people connect with classical music.

    Acclaimed jazz guitarist David Gilmore brings his formidable quartet to Zinc on Monday, November 28. He's supported by bassist Boris Koslov on bass, Victor Gould on piano, and Rudy Royston on drums.

    David Gilmore has performed and recorded with many of today’s most influential artists, including Wayne Shorter, Steve Coleman, Christian McBride, Dave Douglas, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Randy Brecker, Lenny White, Stanley Clarke, Sam Rivers, and many others. His latest release, Transitions (2017 Criss Cross Records) is one of Downbeat Magazine’s top CDs of 2017. He was also recently voted into both the Critic’s Poll and Reader’s Poll of 2017. Gilmore’s playing has been compared to guitarists as diverse as George Benson and Jimi Hendrix. Gilmore has been the recipient of numerous grants, including two Chamber Music of America, New Jazz Works Composer Grants, and nominated for the prestigious Doris Duke Artist Award. Committed to an improvisational approach that reflects a global awareness, he conducts master classes around the world, and is a Professor at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston.
