With jazz clubs shuttered, festivals canceled, and new album releases postponed, it’s difficult to get a pulse on today’s music scene. However, one musician-led organization is leading the way in keeping artists busy in a virtual space.
Live From Our Living Rooms, now in its third installment, is co-produced by three musicians, two of whom have recently been featured on this program: singers Thana Alexa and Sirintip and saxophonist Owen Broder.
On today’s episode, we feature highlights from the summit, which just announced an extension. Most of its livestream workshops, webinars, and performances can still be enjoyed, but only until July 26, with a small donation.
The following artists (in order of appearance) granted us permission to excerpt their performances.
- Zakir Hussain, “Excerpt from Teentaal Suite 16”
- Terri Lyne Carrington, Kris Davis, and Val Jeanty, “Improvised”
- Ingrid Jensen and Que-tee Trio (Alex Smith, Nate Radley, and Jon Wikan), “Round Trip” (Ornette Coleman)
- Gretchen Parlato, Alan Hampton, Mark Guiliana, “Magnus”
- Jason Lindner, “What To The Slave Is The Fourth of July” (Frederick Douglas)
