New York City's fire commissioner is resigning.
Over the weekend, fire commissioner Laura Kavanagh announced she'll be stepping down from her position in a couple months. In a Statement, she calls the decision a hard one, saying
"I’m confident that it is time for me to pass the torch to the next leader. "
She gave no reason for her departure. During here tenure, Kavanagh dealt with internal controversies, a huge rise in lithium ion battery fires and a rise in FDNY emergency response times. About two years ago, Kavanagh became the first woman to lead the department.
