NY state launches new childcare assistance portal

Childcare.gov

New York State has launched an online portal to make it a lot easier for families to apply for low cost childcare.

State officials estimate hundreds of thousands of families are eligible for low cost childcare. However, Governor Hochul says they either don't know about it or have gotten frustrated at what was once a long complicated process to apply. Aisha is now enrolled in the program.

"Honestly, I did not think we would be eligible. I thought out income would be too high. We would not meet the income requirements and we had a family size of five."

The new online portal, ny.gov/childcare makes is quick and easy to check for eligibility and to apply. Under the Child Care Assistance Program, most eligible families of four will pay no more than fifteen dollars per week.
