New York City is preparing to educate thousands of asylum seeker children this school year.
Schools Chancellor David Banks says roughly 19 thousand migrants will be enrolled in New York City school system for the start of this school year.
"We recognize that this specific student population faces additional challenges and that there's schools need the additional resources to fully support them and our promise doesn't end there."
Banks expects thousand of more migrants to enter during the school year . He says the Department of Education has added teachers and is looking to bring in more Spanish speaking teachers. Banks says the city has plenty of classroom space because 120 thousands New York City families left the public school system in recent years.
