NYC plans to cut down on construction sheds

Mayor Adam's administration is trying to cut down on the number of sidewalk construction sheds taking up public space in New York City.

Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi says the city is cutting the time green sidewalk construction sheds can remain up. Permits will now only be issued for 90 days instead of a year and fines will start on day 91. The city is also now going to be focused on enforcement for hundreds of sheds that have been up for years.

"They have stolen our public space because they have made more financial sense to leave the sheds up then to fix the facades. Those days are over."

Right now there's nine thousand sheds throughout the city. They have remained up on average for about 500 days.
