NY State Makes It Easier To Transform Hotels Into Affordable Housing

Some hotels throughout New York state will be turned into affordable housing units thanks to a new law signed by Governor Hochul.

President of Gateway Housing Ted Haughton says the new law will ease regulations and change zoning, allowing for quick conversations of distressed hotels and vacant commercial properties into affordable housing.

“To catch up to the city’s housing need and to actually give people who are homeless people who are housing needy the homes that they need to prosper and to make this city to revitalize it.”

This is one small part of the governor’s plan to create 100-thouasnd new affordable units in the next five year.
