NYC Preparing For Above Normal Hurricane Season

Hurricane Florence will bring "catastrophic flash flooding" to the Carolinas, the National Hurricane Center says. Sustained hurricane-force winds are hitting North Carolina.

New Yorkers are urged to prepare for what experts predict will an above normal hurricane season.

Nearly a decade after Superstorm Sandy hit and less than a year after Ida New York City is launching a Know Your Zone Awareness ad campaign that will be important during threats of severe weather. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell says over three million people live in one of the city’s six evacuation zones.

“Better understand what your unique risk is going to be and put that plan in place for if you have to evacuate. Where are you going to go? How are you going to communicate with your family and loved ones? What are you going to take with you.”

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is forecasting between 14 to 21 named storms. That would be above normal for the seventh year in a row
