Officials are demanding the city beef up security in the subway system following another string of attacks this morning. Tony Utano is the union president who represents transit workers and says there’s been 15 serious subway assaults in the past week.
“This is all about de Blasio doesn’t want to step up and do the right thing. Well you know what, he’s got blood on his hands.”
Utano and MTA Chairman Pat Foye are calling on the city to add hundreds of police officers and mental health services to the subway system.
“It’s critical that those not riding transit including New Yorkers and tourists have confidence in the system that were providing a safe and secure environment.”
Mayor de Blasio points out that overall subway crime is down and the city already added hundreds of officers a few months ago.
