New York City is creating an Open Boulevards program. The City will roll out 10 Open Boulevards as part of a pilot program in the coming weeks. This builds on Open Streets where vehicular traffic is shut to allow for outdoor dining. The Open Boulevards will feature dining, artwork, performances, community activities and picnic tables on multiple blocks in a row. Queens Borough President Donovan Richards.
“There exactly what we need to see in urban communities. They what urban communities are clamoring for. We need to create new parks and in new traditional forms.”
City officials admit drivers will be disrupted but think there will be a net benefit for businesses and the community.
Meanwhile, on the coronavirus vaccine front, New York City is offering more incentives to try and get more people to get the coronavirus vaccine. Mayor de Blasio says gift cards to New York City public markets and the Chelsea market will be given out as options to those who get the vaccine shot. Also, an option, 20 percent off your next purchase at a New York City store.
“We’re going to be rolling our more and more incentives, all different kinds for every kind of New Yorker because we want everyone to become part of this. We want everyone vaccinated to make all of us safe.”
Earlier this week the mayor announced free tickets and deals to a number of attractions to those who get the shot. The mayor has not ruled out cash. More than 7.2 million shots have been administered in the city.
