Godwin Louis' sophomore release, 'Psalms and Proverbs,' gives praise to a higher power

C/O the Artist
Godwin Louis' 2024 'Psalms and Proverbs from Blue Room Music

Grammy Award-nominated saxophonist, composer, and educator Godwin Louis’ sophomore release, 'Psalms and Proverbs,' from Blue Room Music, was released on August 23rd, 2024. The album is a lively mix of original compositions, Haitian folkloric music, and sacred music from the Western canon. The recording is an incredible showcase of his talents as a composer, saxophonist, and arranger. Louis is joined by a strong ensemble, including trumpeter Etienne Charles, Bassist Markus Schwartz, and Pianist Johnny Mercier.

WBGO’s Emily Springer discusses the catalyst for 'Psalms and Proverbs,' Louis’ global viewpoint regarding jazz, and the importance of identity and knowing oneself as an artist and person. Each track from the album offers listeners a blend of lush harmonies, deep grooves, and memorable melodies. The record combines West African, European, American, and Afro-Caribbean music elements, creating songs that illicit movement and praise to a higher power.
