Caetano Veloso gave an amazing show at NJPAC on Saturday, April 6. The hall was electric, given the huge Brazilian presence in Newark and the surrounding area and the stature of the performer. The excellent sound and sight lines of NJPAC added to the wonderful vibe..
Caetano's voice was in superior form and the backup band was superb, filled with talented musicians from both Rio de Janeiro and Veloso's home state of Bahia. Caetano is turning 82 this summer and it was a thrill to be there and view him while his playing is still so strong. The concert covered much of his career and included some compelling recent material from his recent solo album, Meu Coco, which was his first solo album in 9 years.
