It’s another early weekday, which begins with a good night to Jazz After Hours host Greg Bryant, and a good morning to news anchor Doug Doyle. Just the two of us, as Bill Withers might say, and you. A cup of coffee, some jazz to start the day, the latest news to put a handle on the world.
It’s a rhythm you experience in your lives. By 8 AM, WBGO starts to churn with activity when the many hard working folks in membership, marketing, underwriting, web content and production arrive, all anticipating another exciting day.
But it’s different now. We’re all still here, together, but apart, as COVID has stolen our play-books, forcing us to work from home, like you, seemingly detached from all others so important in our daily lives.
But I feel it. As I begin to broadcast Morning Jazz from my home, I can’t see my dedicated coworkers, but I feel them. I can’t see you, starting your day with us; the music, a smile, pausing to catch the top stories of the day.
I can’t see you, but I feel you. It’s been my inspiration for many years, and now, more than ever, that feeling is stronger than ever, feeding my dedication; to share the hippest music in the world, to share a commonplace connection we’ve felt together, the stability that is WBGO.
We’re here for you. We’re here with you. Most importantly, we’re here because of you. Your ears in the AM, your comments that connect, your financial support that allows our evolving determination to be the best jazz station in the world.
Although it seems out of place, truth is, everything is in place. We’re all here. We will get through this difficult time. Together.
Together is a powerful word. I want you to know how important that is to me. It’s that feeling which will get us through another day.
