Host an Hour on WBGO

Have you ever dreamt of being on the air at WBGO? Have you imagined talking with one of your favorite Announcers while sharing a selection of your favorite tunes with WBGO’s worldwide audience?

Well, you can make this bucket list dream a reality by Hosting an Hour on WBGO.

For a charitable donation of $1,800 ($150/month) as an active WBGO member, or $2,100 ($175/month) as a first-time contributor, we can make this happen for you or a treasured loved one as a gift.

You’ll also receive a one-year membership in WBGO’S Jazz Leadership Society and get to enjoy all its associated benefits: Jazz Leadership Society | WBGO

Here’s how it works:

  1. After you’ve successfully fulfilled your generous pledge to us, you will be contacted by John Newcott, Director of Individual Giving
  2. You will be sent an email including a detailed document outlining the complete guidelines and procedures for Hosting an Hour on WBGO’s airwaves.
  3. You will be asked to identify your Announcer of choice* (and a 2nd choice) along with 2 or 3 proposed dates to schedule your taping
  4. All Host an Hours are pre-recorded either in our studio in Newark with your Announcer of choice, or virtually via Zoom
  5. Once those details are confirmed and your taping is scheduled, you will need to submit your playlist for pre-approval at least 2 weeks prior to the taping of your session

Host an Hours are broadcast later during a dedicated slot in WBGO’s Programming Calendar, currently Sunday evenings from 6 to 7 PM.

After your airdate, your Hour will be available in the WBGO Archive on our website for 2 weeks for those who missed it in real time. You will also be provided with a copy of your Hour with us as a keepsake, digitally and/or on a CD.

For more information, please contact John Newcott, Director of Individual Giving at (973) 643-4302 jnewcott@wbgo.org

*Host an Hours are not available on Rhythm Revue and for Favorite Things, they are only available virtually.
