The New York City area is in the middle of a dangerous stretch of heat with temperatures well into the 90's through Wednesday.
New Yok City is extending pool hours, keeping Olympic and intermediate sized ones open until 8 p.m. through Wednesday. Hundreds of cooling centers are open in the five boroughs. Many are in libraries and community centers.
In Newark, officials have issued a code red alert through Wednesday which is a hot weather health warning. The heat index on Tuesday could reach as high as 101 in Newark. The city is opening cooling centers in the five wards and locations can be found on Newark's website.
