The annual Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show will be returning to the East River this year.

The fireworks display was on the Hudson River last year but officials say the thousands of shells will go off from barges on the East River on Independence Day. This will be the 49th annual Macy's show that draws huge crowds to the city. Officials say what's known as the largest display of fireworks in the nation can be seen in many places in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. There will be a city-sponsored lottery for free public viewing tickets announced over the next few weeks.
