New Jersey congressman Josh Gottheimer has got beef with the meat industry.
He says four companies control about 85 percent of it and are jacking up prices. He's introduced a bill that would require the feds to assign someone to enforce price fixing laws for the meatpacking industry. The bill would also require the Department of Agriculture to do what it can to encourage more companies to enter the industry, creating more competition in hopes the prices go down.
"We must do more to make life more affordable and stop food and grocery costs from eating into the budgets of Jersey families."
Gottheimer is also introducing the Lower Grocery Prices Act, that will require the feds to come up with a plan to combat high prices.
