New Jersey lawmakers are demanding answers for high electricity bills this past summer.

Seven members from the assembly and senate wrote a letter to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities requesting public hearings on soaring energy costs. The letter states their offices have received a lot of phone calls regarding higher than usual electricity costs in recent months. Assemblywoman Andrea Katz.

"Cost are going up everywhere and folks are hurting and having a really hard time. This isn't a really great time for energy costs to be going so high."

Katz says she's going to be introducing legislation that requires the BPU to consider affordability before signing off on any future utility company rate hikes.
