Low income families across New York State can receive food money for their children thanks to a new program.

Governor Hochul's administration says around two million children will qualify for 120 dollar debit cards that can be used to purchase food. This is part of a new federal program called Summer EBT aimed at helping children from low-income families. Director of No Kid Hungry New York Rachel Sabella applauds the move.

"It helps ensure children get the nutrition they need in the summer time when schools are closed and helps families who often see a strain on their grocery budget during summer break."

The debit cards can be used at grocery stores that accept supplemental benefits. Families have until September 3rd to apply.
