Dangerous intense heat is once again here in the New York City area. It's expected to feel like the upper 90's and event 100 degrees at times over the next few days.
There are more than three-hundred heat related deaths in New York City every year. Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Ischol is urging residents to take this heat seriously.
"Make sure you are consuming adequate water even if you are not feeling thirsty. Seek shaded or air conditioned locations."
Hundreds of cooling centers are open in all five boroughs and President of the Brooklyn Public Library Linda Johnson says that includes libraries.
"You can come in sit down, stay cool all day without every having to buy anything, no questions asked."
New Yorkers are being asked try and use high intense energy appliances like dishwashers and laundry machines in the late evening and morning to ease strain on the energy grid. The city is extending hours on some of its pools. New York City has already had two heat waves this year.
