MTA expected to offer commuter rail discount for some tied to congestion pricing

New Jersey Transit train

The MTA is expected to vote on giving discounts to commuter rail customers when congestion pricing starts.

The MTA is expected to sign off on a 10 percent discount for LIRR and Metro North monthly passes for trips that start and end within the five boroughs of New York City. This would be a one year pilot program going into effect when congestion pricing takes off at the end of June. MTA officials say this is an effort to motivate New Yorkers to opt for mass transit instead of their vehicles for their commutes. Its unclear how much the discount will cost the MTA.
