Property owners in New York City who are not paying their water bills are being put on notice
DEP Commissioner Rit Aggarwala says there are about 24-hundred water service accounts that owe the city more than 100 million dollars in unpaid water bills.
"They are trying to ghost us and hope they we forget out their bills but we can't forget because the rest of us are picking up their tab and that's not fair."
DEP officials are issuing shut off notices to their properties with water likely being turned off unless they pay up or enter into a payment agreement within a couple weeks. The enforcement action is targeting hotels, office and residential buildings.
