As the nation marked Veterans Day over the weekend, one new Jersey lawmaker is proposing legislation to give more support to those who have served our country.

Congressman Josh Gottheimer is introducing legislation that would provide grant money to non profit organizations around the nation that help veterans, active military members and their families. The legislation will also help prevent delays when veterans need critical mental health support.

"I have talked to so many veterans who come home and feel like they are alone. They sign a piece of paper and are discharged and no one follows up. That's unacceptable."

Gottheimer is also introducing legislation that would give every vetteran a contact person who could help connect veterans to services.
