New York City officials are unveiling a plan to make the subway system safer. The plan expands response teams. Clinicians will now be added to those teams that also include the NYPD and community groups to help connect homeless with services. MTA Chair Janno Lieber says another key part of the plan is NYPD officers now being instructed to enforce subway rules.
“No more open drug use. No more smoking. No more oversized shopping carts and no more sprawling out across the platform.”
Folks will also now be required to get off trains at the end of subway lines. The plan is geared toward helping the homeless and addressing the huge spike in Transit crime to start off the year.
